My Personal Story
A journey around the world
I was raised in a small, suburban community in the south of Manila, Philippines. It's a place that, while comfortable, always felt to me a little too small. My dream as a little girl had always been to venture out into the unknown and explore as much of the world as possible. And at sixteen, I started to realize that dream.
I moved to France, backpacked to as many places as I could, earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing from INSEEC in Paris, and in 2016 moved for work to New York, then briefly to Singapore.
Leaving it all behind
It's towards the end of 2017, roughly one year after graduating, when I moved back to the Philippines. This wasn't at all my plan, but I just couldn't secure the working visas I needed to stay abroad.
It left me disoriented and disillusioned --as if I was being forced out of a life that I so adored and worked hard for. But I eventually learned to take the turn in stride and move forward. As Maya Angelou once said, "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude."
A life-changing adventure
I couldn't go back to my old life, but I could springboard off of it and dive into a new adventure.
So, I decided to take one year off to travel and volunteer around the Philippines, moving from indigenous mountain provinces to tropical surf islands. And, as it happens, it completely changes my life. I fall in love with all sorts of different places and communities, with surfing, with a fellow-traveling Dutchie (and now live-in boyfriend), and, most of all, with a deeper sense of purpose.
Everything I saw and did during that one year filled me up with so much inspiration. In particular, I was moved by all the people I'd met who were running organizations that try to make the world a better place, whether it's for their immediate communities, disadvantaged individuals, or the welfare of our planet. And I wanted to learn more.
The next chapter
Building on this momentum, I decided to go back to school. I had all this passion and insight but little to no structure around it, and at the same time, I wanted to continue expanding my horizons –both intellectually and culturally.
So, in 2019, I moved to Australia with my boyfriend and pursued a master’s degree in International Business, focusing on how to use innovation and entrepreneurship as a force for positive impact.
I finished my program one year later, in 2020, and have since decided to indefinitely settle with my boyfriend in Amsterdam. I'm happily staying put in one incredible place for a long, long time.
As for what's next... Well, that part I’m still writing. ☺️
I'm open to both freelance projects and permanent employment (in Amsterdam or nearby cities).
If you could use someone on your team with insatiable curiosity, a driven growth mindset, and a wide range of unique experiences with a strong track record to boot, then I would love to hear from you!
